Back from Sakuracon 2022

Well, I’m back from my first convention in almost 3 years. Sakuracon 2022 will probably get an article on https://fansubbing.com/. If not, I’ll write up a personal reflection post here. It was overall a great time with friends and was much busier than I expected.

Happy New Year 2022!

Happy New Year! Another year has passed by in almost a blink of an eye. It’s nice that we’re approaching the end of the pandemic and approaching the ‘new normal’. The highlight this year was definitely being able to travel again for a bit. I headed out to San Francisco and Toronto this year. I got to see friends again and just visit somewhere away from home.

Even though not every plane is super comfortable, it was nice to be able to travel again. Pictured above is a Boeing 787 from the trip to/from Toronto. It was a 787-9 on the way there and a 787-8 on the way back. Overall, pretty good flights.

We’ll have to see what 2022 has in store for us. Conventions seem to be back on the menu as things open back up. I have a trip planned to Hawaii in March/April of this year. We’ll see if that works with Sakuracon as well. It’s already been 3 years since the last Sakuracon, I attended. It’s hard to believe it has been so long already. Either way, here’s to a much better 2022!

2021 Updates

I’m back with another update for 2021. I’ve finally traveled on a plane somewhere for the first time in almost 2 whole years now. Any plans before this were basically canceled due to the severity of Covid-19. As things have eased up a bit and I was able to make some time, I flew down to SFO to meet some friends for a long weekend.

I spent time with friends doing all sorts of stuff including going out to eat, visiting places, playing mahjong, playing video games, and honestly just seeing good friends. It feels like it has been so long since seeing any of them. The last time must have been Sakuracon 2019 for some of them. That feels like so long ago now.

Anyway, still no solid plans for the rest of the year as most events are still canceled and things are only starting to ease up. The only plans right now are to eat some more good food and hopefully get in a bit more travel once things are safer.

Happy New Year 2021!

Happy New Year! I hope you’re all staying safe and healthy. It’s even crazier than previous years that a whole year has passed. The pandemic has certainly taken its toll on everyone. No travel this year with almost all major events canceled. Hopefully, 2021 will be a better year for us all. If nothing else, I’ve picked up some merch for the year and picked up some new hobbies including Mahjong.

It’s hard to believe a year ago around this time, I was flying back from Tokyo on JAL in business class. I already miss the lounge hopping and being able to enjoy a business cabin for once on an airplane. The food was also really good given that it was a plane meal. I mean, just look at it!

The biggest gift I got myself for the year was a new phone. I picked up a Google Pixel 5 as my previous HTC phone was starting to die. It had a pretty good ~3-year run. Anyway, Happy New Year, and to hoping for a better 2021!

2020 Updates

Just a small update for 2020. It looks like this pandemic is bigger than people thought it would be. Most plans for the year will be on hold as we see what things look like. It’s hard to believe, I was set to go soon to other places but travel looks like it is off the table for now.

In terms of recent things, I’ve finally collected the 9 limited editions of the Dengeki G’s magazines featuring Aqours. When you put them together it says Sunshine!!

Happy New Year 2020!

Happy New Year! It feels weird that another year has passed. As I sit here in Japan, it’s kind of crazy how time just seems to fly by. I’ve visited so many different places including conventions, Comiket, and other events all throughout the year. To top it off, I get to see family in Hong Kong, meet friends in Japan, and have a relaxing vacation in Macau.

I haven’t thought too deeply about the upcoming year yet but some conventions are definitely on the list. We’ll likely head to Sakuracon early in March/April as usual and have a better look into the year from there.

I think the best thing about being in Asia for the New Year and being here for the majority of December is escaping the cold and snow back home. Not to mention all the good food like the skewers above. Delish!

With that, here’s to a good 2020! We’ll see what the year has in store for us. I also thought I’d share that I will be making a lot of posts over on https://fansubbing.com/ as that is where I’ll be posting reviews and such in the future. This site will be used more for personal blogging while more professional work including conventions and interviews will likely get posted there. See you all in 2020!

Anime Revolution 2019

We’re back for another year of our local convention. It’s always surprising and cool to see the growth or changes from one year to another. As with previous years, the convention takes place in the Convention Center in Downtown Vancouver just a few steps from the Waterfront Station.

Comiket 101: A Guide to Surviving Comiket

Comiket 101: A Guide to Surviving Comiket

A few days ago, one of my online friends brought up the fact that I had gone to Comiket 95 back in December. They were wondering if I may have some tips to Comiket as they will be going for the first time in a few weeks to Comiket 96. I gave some general pointers and reflected a bit on the experience and he told me I should probably write an article about it as it could help his other friends he is traveling with as well. I will also likely write a reflection article regarding the entire trip. Having been a bit busy lately and recently coming back from another trip, I’ve had less time than I would like to write on here.

Sakura-con 2019

Sakura-con 2019

Ah, Sakura-con. It almost feels like a home con to me at this point. I’ve attended this convention since 2014, it’s hard to believe it has been so long already. There’s just something to be said about the conventions you visit almost annually. Sakura-con 2019 was certainly filled with great memories and good convention experience. This article was a bit delayed due to my recent trip to Japan for the Love Live Sunshine! 5th Live. There should be an article posted about it soon.
